Homeless Youth Pt. 1

Recently I have been working on the issues of homelessness we face in our community and went downtown to talk to some folks about the issues they see and experience. What I ran into was a group of kids sleeping in downtown Eugene.

Lane County Public Health has released it’s 2018 point in time count data. The annual one night homeless count is for sheltered and unsheltered people. After a consistent decrease of homeless youth since 2010, the numbers have increased the past two years.

The numbers reported on homeless youth has officials concerned, please take a look.

Homeless Youth Pt. 3

A new Lane county homeless count came out this month saying homeless youth has doubled from last year. While the county works to address the issue, there are educational programs to help kids in problematic situations. I spoke with a former student with the MLK Education Center who went from a 2nd grade education to a high school graduate in less than a year.
